Date set for
July 16-17
Those who attended Westfort High School here in 1980-81 are invited to a reunion on July 16 at the local Legion.
There will be a mix-and-mingle, followed by a dance with music provided by popular 1980s DJ, “The Jet” (Rockin’ Rod Armit).
A brunch also will be held the following day at the Fort Frances High School cafeteria.
The planning committee is a group of women who have known each other since elementary school, and still get together for birthdays and special occasions.
Teresa Hazel, who is a member of the group, explained how the reunion idea came to be.
“Now that we have children in high school, we were reminiscing about how nice it was to attend Westfort for Grade 9s only, which helped with the transition to high school,” she noted.
“Then we realized that in June, 2011, it would be 30 years since that time of our lives and we started saying, ‘I wonder where so and so is now.’
“Hence, planning for the reunion, entitled “1980/81—We still just wanna have fun,” began,” Hazel added.
Organizers have been able to contact about one-third of the people via Facebook, and are hoping the word will spread through this popular social network.
They also have collected addresses for another third of their classmates and have sent out a “Save the Date” card.
If anyone attended Westfort in 1980/81, or knows someone who did, they are asked to contact any of the planning committee members, who include Teresa (Morelli) Hazel (274-7299), Tammy Noble (274-1379), Sandra (Armit) Holt (274-2636), Tina (Sivonen) Roth (274-5674), Janice (Wolff) Ward (274-4117), or Kristine (Gustafson) McCaig (274- 6281).
Tickets will be available soon, and those who would like to reserve tickets are asked to contact any of the above committee members.
“We’re really looking forward to re-connecting with classmates—and teachers—from that time in our lives, to catch up on what we’re doing now, our children, and our careers,” enthused Hazel.
“Those who come can dress in their finest ’80s fashions or come as they are now,” she chuckled.
