WENDY BRUNETTA (2014 election)

It’s after midnight and I can’t sleep. I’m trying to find the words to put in my election campaign article for the paper.
All these buzz words are going through my head: “transparency, “integrity,” “respect.” But if you don’t know me, that’s all they are—words.
Since they say “actions speak louder than words,” through this article, I’m hoping to tell you about myself and how my actions translate into why I am a good candidate for town councillor.
I’ve demonstrated my commitment to:
•Our community through volunteering with Fort Frances Little Theatre, the Christmas Cantata, and “Tour de Fort.”
I believe that the arts enrich our lives and our communities.
I also have canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years. I am a member of the Fort Frances Curling Club and I love to golf (not well, mind you).
•Family and friends through volunteering with the parent councils, school lunch programs, and the Muskie Touchdown Club.
My husband, John, and I have been married for 29 years and frequently spend time with family and friends in the community. We value our time together and provide each other support whenever it is needed.
•My faith by attending church regularly and volunteering at my church in various ministries, singing in the choir, and as a member of the C.W.L.
I try to live my life in a way that reflects my Christian values.
•My work through 30 years of dedicated service.
I believe my work experience in human resources and management has prepared me for the role of councillor. As a certified Human Resources Professional, I am committed to the profession through volunteering on the Northwestern Ontario Chapter of the Human Resources Professionals of Ontario and through continued learning to upgrade my skills.
I also possess a diploma in Accounting Management.
When it comes right down to it, though, I’m just like you—a member of this community. I’m proud to live in Fort Frances. I was born here and chose to raise my children here, too.
My husband and I were fortunate to find excellent jobs here, but our children will not have the same opportunities. The mill closure was hard on a lot of families.
We need to find some way to replace those jobs so our children (and others) can find jobs here, which will increase our population and tax base.
Don’t vote for me because you think I have all the answers—I don’t. It will be my job to ask the right questions of the right people so that informed decisions are made which will keep our town viable and have minimal impact on our citizens.
Vote for me because I’m a good listener and respectful communicator. Vote for me because I’m an honest, hard-working person who will do her very best to represent your opinions at the table.
I want to thank everyone for their kind words of support throughout this campaign. If we haven’t had a chance to talk in person, please visit my Facebook page.
