The town is expected to add “Welcome” to the “Boundless” signs at either end of Fort Frances.
In February, 2015, council approved the replacement of entrance signage, including the addition of the word “Boundless.”
But some citizens have since pointed out the signs no longer “welcomed” visitors to the community.
After reviewing the matter, the Economic Development Advisory Committee recently voted to put forth to council for its consideration the addition of the word “Welcome” on the entrance signs.
The cost of adding “Welcome” permanently, or making a series of hanging signs with various messages, including “Welcome” or “Welcome bass anglers” during the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship, will be less than $1,500.
They will be funded by the existing economic development budget.
The bases of the signs already have holes drilled from the signs that were used on the bases of the previous Amik signs.
Council will vote on the EDAC motion during its regular meeting tonight.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., but will go in-camera for an indefinite length of time to discuss several items, including Agency One land negotiations and a land rental inquiry.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a verbal update on capital projects;
•a delegation by resident Wayne Lundstrom re: the use and care of pedestrians and cyclists;
•an activity report by the Rainy River Future Development Corp. ;
•hearings for an application of tax adjustment at 525 Portage Ave. and at 618 Riverview Dr.; and
•a request for an amendment to a land use agreement at 353 Scott St. (the Salvation Army).
