FireRangers in the Fort Frances and Dryden districts were kept busy over the weekend with new fires, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported yesterday.
These were small and easily managed by FireRangers, and no problems were encountered with any of them.
Fort Frances Fire #53 was a 0.1-hectare, lightning-caused blaze located in the Basswood Lake area of Quetico Provincial Park.
The Fort Frances Fire Management Headquarters will continue to monitor it.
Fort Frances Fires #51 and #52 also were both small, lightning-caused fires which have since been declared “out.”
Dryden Fires #42 and #43, meanwhile, both were human-caused.
The former has since been declared “out” while the latter was classified as “being held.”
The MNR said some new fires likely will result over the next few days from all the recent lightning.
The fire hazard is “low” to “moderate” for most of the region, except Quetico Park, where it is “high.”
Meanwhile, all personnel that went to British Columbia on Aug. 19 were back in Ontario by the end of yesterday.
