About 30 members of Unifor Local 324 voted 88 percent in favour of a new first contract with Weechi-it-te-win Family Services that also was ratified by its board last Thursday.
Weechi-it-te-win Family Services is an indigenous-based child welfare agency located near Fort Frances that serves Anishinaabe residents from 10 area First Nations across the Kenora and Rainy River districts.
“Unifor members at Weechi-it-te-win Family Services were very pleased with key monetary improvements and the solid contract language achieved in their new first contract,” said Unifor national representative Stephen Boon.
“This long-term deal will provide long-term stability for Weechi-it-te-win Family Services and will allow our members to focus on providing critical services to Anishinaabe residents across Northwestern Ontario,” he added.
The new four-year agreement includes 7.25 percent in total wage increases–1.5 percent Year 1, 1.75 percent in Year 2, and two percent in both Year 3 and Year 4.
It also includes increased employer pension contributions, strong seniority language, 14 annual statutory holidays, 15 annual sick days, expanded paid and unpaid leave, a generous retirement allowance, and improved benefit coverage.
