According to a warning from the national weather agency, after a thaw today, temps are expected to take a sharp decline this evening.
“Temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid single digits this afternoon, leading to melting in some areas. A sharp cold front will move through northwestern Ontario this evening causing a rapid drop in temperatures below the freezing mark, resulting in icy conditions,” the warning says.
Overnight lows will end up between -16c (3f) and -20 (-4) which could lead to roads and walkways becoming icy.
“Any precipitation that falls before or during this temperature change could further contribute to the icy conditions. Overnight lows are expected to be anywhere from -16 (3) to -20 (-4) degrees Celsius,” they said.
“Roads and walkways may quickly become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces will likely form quickly and could be difficult to detect.”
Temperatures will continue to stay lower for the rest of the week.
Wednesday will be mainly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries in the afternoon. Winds up to 15 km/h. High -2 (28). Wind chill -21 (-6) in the morning and -8 (18) in the afternoon. UV index one or low. Wednesday night will see periods of snow and a low of -13 (9).
