Press Release
The International Lake of the Woods and Rainy River Watershed Task Force will hold public meetings next month at three locations to receive comments on its interim report.
They will be held Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at the Warroad Area Community Center, on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion in Orr, Mn., and Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at the Sioux Narrows community hall.
The interim report is primarily a factual report describing how the United States and Canada work together to manage water quality, water quantity, and related issues in the Lake of the Woods and Rainy River watershed.
It is available at county offices, the public libraries in Atikokan, Ely, Fort Frances, International Falls, Kenora, and Warroad, and online at www.ijc.org/conseil_board/rainy_river_watershed
The task force welcomes comments from the public on its interim report and issues in the watershed it should consider.
The task force anticipates issuing a draft final report in May that takes into account comments received on its interim report, and that provides draft recommendations regarding bi-national governance structures and mechanisms.
It anticipates holding additional public meetings in June prior to issuing a final report with its recommendations to the IJC by July 15.
