Water and sewer rates likely will be going up here in Fort Frances.
Town council will vote tonight on whether to apply a 2.71 increase to all rates, which will generate an additional $152,279.33 in revenue compared to last year.
If passed, the 2.71 hike for flat rate residential customers will increase bills from $909.20 per year in 2016 to $933.82 in 2017–an increase of $24.62 per year or $2.05 per month.
Non-residential customers’ volumetric rate will rise from $5.21 per cubic metre in 2016 to $5.35 per cubic metre in 2017.
The volumetric rate, meanwhile, will be set at $3.01 per cubic meter for the industrial and commercial customers and $3.47 per cubic meter for institutional customers.
A 2.71 percent increase to the ICI (industrial, commercial, and institutional) will see the minimum monthly rate go from $1,224.38 per year in 2016 to $1,257.54 per year in 2017–an increase of $33.16 per year or $2.76 per month.
The 2.71 percent increase also would be applied to fire hydrants and sprinklers
Tonight’s meeting also will include a 2016 police activities report from OPP detachment commander Insp. Steve Shouldice and a presentation from Matt Soprovich regarding the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., but will go in-camera for an indefinite length of time to discuss two items.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a report re: a traffic control bylaw amendment at the library parking lot;
•a report re: removing a holding provision at Lot 21 Minnie Avenue North;
•a report about updating student wages;
•a contract for Trillium Foundation Canada 150 funding;
•an application for child-care worker wage enhancement;
•hangar lease renewals with Bearskin Airlines and Melaire Ltd.;
•the awarding of a tender for a tracked compact tractor and attachments;
•a support agreement renewal for process control at the water and wastewater treatment plants;
•per capita funding requests from the Rainy River Future Development Corp. and Safe Communities Rainy River District; and
•multiple travel expense and per diem claims.
