Walleye derby plans going smoothly

Entry forms aren’t even ready yet but people already are talking about their plans to compete in the newest fishing tournament to hit the district.
The first-annual Emo Walleye Classic will be held May 31-June 1 on the Rainy River.
“The Walleye Classic committee is meeting tonight [Wednesday] to discuss plans,” said committee member Colleen Vennechenko, who also is president of the Emo Chamber of Commerce.
Other committee members include Dale Hartlin (chair), Ed Carlson, Donna Dalseg, Nevin Bonot, and KP Computers of Emo.
Lionel Robert, owner of Lion Rob tournament services and longtime emcee of the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship each July, also will host the Emo derby.
The derby hopes to attract 50 two-person teams, with the entry fee being $600 per boat.
“We’re probably going to have over 50 teams,” Vennechenko predicted. Many potential entrants said they liked the fact this is a two-day tournament as opposed to the three-day FFCBC.
“We’re working hard to finalize events,” Vennechenko noted. “If anyone would like to volunteer, they can contact any of the committee members for information.”
