Walleye classic tagged as community event

Emo council threw its support behind the first-annual Emo Walleye Classic tournament coming up May 30-June 1.
The organizing committee had asked that the tournament be considered a community event, and Emo council happily agreed. “I think it’s going to be a great event for our community,” Reeve Russ Fortier said.
A parade is scheduled to kick off the tournament on May 30, during which Front Street will be blocked off to traffic. The derby itself runs May 31-June 1.
At last week’s council meeting, Reeve Fortier also noted the importance of volunteers for work on the fairgrounds.
Brenda Cooke, Emo’s administrator and clerk-treasurer, added the committee is planning “quite a few promotions.”
“It’s something good for the town,” said Coun. Ken Fisher.
Coun. Harri Sheloff said it was especially important for the town to throw support behind the walleye committee for its first-annual tournament.
