Walk-in clinics starting up

Press Release

The Fort Frances Family Health Team (FHT) is pleased to announce it will be providing two walk-in clinics per week starting Nov. 13.
With new administration and the addition of a third nurse practitioner, the local FHT has looked at new opportunities to improve patient access to primary care services.
The walk-in clinics will provide a nurse practitioner appointment to patients with non-urgent health-care issues.
Patients can meet with a nurse practitioner for issues such as sore throats, cough/colds, ear aches, infections, and/or minor injuries as a few examples.
By providing this service, the Fort Frances FHT hopes to reduce patient visits to the emergency department for non-emergent conditions.
The walk-in clinic is not meant to replace the complex and continuing care provided by a medical practitioner, but will allow for timely access to primary care services for patients with acute and episodic care needs.
In an effort to maintain timely access, the walk-in clinic will not provide services for the following: prescriptions for narcotics, severe injuries/wounds, chest pain, or complex health needs as examples.
It is not for medical emergencies; individuals with life-threatening injuries or illness should call 9-1-1 or go directly to the emergency department at La Verendrye Hospital.
Walk-in clinics will be available each Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-6 p.m., and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Patient check starts at 3:45 p.m.
The Fort Frances FHT walk-in clinic adheres to a one issue per visit policy
As well, pre-scheduled appointments are not permitted at this time.
