Saturday to raise awareness around dementia care and support

Spring is in the air, and that makes for a great weekend to turn out and support those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

The Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts will once again be hosting the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s event this Saturday, May 30, at the Sorting Gap Marina. The annual event brings walkers, runners, strollers and more to the waterfront to help raise funds and awareness to support dementia care, as well as those living with the diseases. Registration for the walk begins at 10:30 a.m., with the walk itself scheduled to get underway shortly after, so be sure to get there early to get in on all the action.

The Alzheimer Society of Canada shares that the walk is intended for everyone who has been imapcted by the disease, knows someone who is living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, or just wants to support a good cause and help advance awareness and support for those impacted.

“We walk to share hope with people living with dementia and their caregivers. We walk to make sure vital programs, services, and education are available in our communities. We walk because every step we take together brings us closer to a future where no one faces dementia alone,” the Society shares on their website.

“Funds raised support local programs delivered by Alzheimer Societies across Canada, providing essential services for those impacted by dementia. With more than 750,000 Canadians currently living with dementia—and nearly one million projected by 2030—the need is urgent.”

There will also be a free BBQ for all participants beginning at noon.
