The Emo Lions Club held its annual “walk-a-thon” on Saturday morning, with the six-km route going from the curling club to a checkpoint at Tom Judson’s gate and back.
Some 44 people took part, representing the Rainy River District Community Policing Committee, Youth for Understanding, Crossroads School in Devlin, the Rainy River Rural Safety Association, Sea Cadets, Emo Ringette Association, Emo playground fundraising, the Borderland Community Orchestra, Devlin T.O.P.S., and the Lions Club.
Altogether, they raised about $3,900
“What a nice day for this event. It was a comfortable walk,” noted Carol Judson and Paul Astle of the Community Policing Committee.
Ashlee Nordstrom rode her bike all the way. “I loved it, it was easy,” she enthused.
Lions members Len Jordens and Larry Jack checked the runners, walkers, and bikers at the checkpoint, with Joe Tibold holding the safety watch at CN Rail crossing.
George Everett was on the road patrol, making sure everyone was having a safe walk.
Back at the curling club, Lions members Wayne Barron, Darcy and Lisa Jack, and LaVerne Tibold registered participants while Lions president Dale Hartlin and Cecil Ogden looked after kitchen duties.
Winner of the bicycle, donated by Tompkins Hardware, was Bonnie Bender.
