The Fort Frances Wal-Mart once again has shown its commitment to Canadian children by partnering with Breakfast Clubs of Canada to “Give Them a Taste for Learning.”
The campaign will raise awareness and funds for school nutrition programs nationwide.
Research shows poor nutrition has a direct effect on learning. If the situation endures over many years, a child’s chances of succeeding in school—and succeeding as an adult—are diminished.
From Feb. 21-March 27, the public is invited to show their generosity at Wal-Mart stores across the country.
For a $1 donation, customers will receive a specially-designed bookmark and help support a coast-to-coast network of 2,400 school nutrition programs feeding 230,000 Canadian kids.
Inspired by overwhelming customer response to previous campaigns, this year’s fundraising goal is $2 million.
“We want to make sure all Canadian kids, locally and nationwide, have the opportunity to start their day with a healthy breakfast and therefore learn effectively,” said Darryl Skinner, the new manager of the Fort Frances Wal-Mart.
“Our customers and associates hold this cause close to their hearts and we count on their support for the success of this campaign,” he added.
Customers also can support this fundraising campaign by buying specially-selected food products from Saputo, Danone, Minute Maid, and Kelloggs.
These generous partners will donate a portion of sales during the campaign period back to Breakfast Clubs of Canada.

Skinner is excited to join the Fort Frances Wal-Mart team as the new store manager. He started with Wal-Mart Canada in 2002 and has travelled across Ontario, working in various stores throughout the province.
Skinner is eager to become an active part of the Fort Frances community and is experienced at helping charities meet their fundraising goals.
