Many town residents already have cast their ballot either online or over the phone for the local municipal and school board elections.
As of 11 a.m. today (Oct. 19), some 1,581 people out of the 5,179 eligible voters had cast their ballots, which put the total voter turnout at 30.22 percent since voting opened at 8:30 a.m. this past Monday (Oct. 15).
Voting continues until 8 p.m. this coming Monday (Oct. 22).
“I’m very pleased with the voter turnout as of this moment,” said town clerk Lisa Slomke.
“People are using their right to vote and if they’re not on the [voting] list, they’re coming down to get added,” she noted.
Slomke also has been very pleased with the response to the voting systems so far.
“The feedback we have been receiving from people who have used the system is that they are very pleased with it,” she remarked.
“They’re happy, and they find it very easy and user-friendly.”
Voter turnout for the last municipal election here in 2014 was 56 percent—and Slomke is optimistic that total will hit 60 percent this time around.
An important piece of information for voters to note is that online voting only works on three web browsers: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox.
Slomke also reminds those who vote over the telephone to make sure they listen to all the instructions before pushing any buttons.
Anyone having issues with online or telephone voting is asked to come to the Civic Centre, where a voter help centre is located until 4:30 p.m. today (Oct. 19) and again on Monday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
