More volunteers are wanted for the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s 20th-annual home and leisure show coming up this weekend (May 2-3) at the Memorial Sports Centre.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs, especially being “floor ambassadors,” who relieve exhibitors if they need to take a break during the two-day event.
They also are greatly needed to work the door and collect admission.
As well, volunteers are required to run the “Plinko” game (they can make like the “Price is Right” and hand out prizes to winners) and at the children’s corner, where they’ll be called upon to blow up balloons and paint faces.
The trade show will run Friday from 4-9 p.m. and again Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Volunteers can lend their services for any amount of time they choose—whether it’s just an hour or shifts on both days.
Anyone can be a volunteer, and this is a perfect opportunity for high school students to work off some of those mandatory community volunteering hours in the “crunch time” before graduation this June.
In fact, the majority of the volunteers at the past few trade show have been Fort Frances High School students.
“I would say volunteers at an event like this is one of the most important things,” said Chamber manager Dawn Booth. “There is no way we would be able to run an event like this without the commitment from our volunteers.
“With the Chamber only having one paid staff person, myself, for most of the time, everybody else that helps us out is a volunteer—from our board of directors and our executive members to the public that we invite to come out and helps us,” she noted.
“From my standpoint, there’s no way we’d be able to pull this off without the volunteers.”
