Volunteers reminded to enter for prizes

Anyone who has volunteered with this year’s Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship is reminded to make sure they enter draws for volunteer appreciation prizes tomorrow at the Memorial Sports Centre.
FFCBC director Lynda Richardson, who is in charge of “Daytime Land” as well as volunteer appreciation, said she will have a volunteer appreciation table set up there tomorrow from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and again from 7-9 p.m. so volunteers can put their names in to win prizes.
(If volunteers can’t make it there at those specific times, just try and track down Richardson at the tournament site).
Richardson said organizers have rounded up between 70 and 80 prizes donated by numerous sponsors for bass volunteers to win.
Each hour they have worked earns them one ticket for their own personal penny auction sheet.
As well, those volunteers who have logged 20 hours or more receive a “door prize” ticket that can be used for one of three “superstar prizes”:
•a two-day stay for four people at Camp Narrows Lodge, with a $100 gift certificate from The Place;
•two tickets to see rock-pop band “Stereos” here on July 28; and
•an evening-on-the-town package, including a one-hour limo ride courtesy of North Air Services and $100 gift certificate for La Flambée.
The volunteer prizes will be drawn by next Tuesday (July 27).
Volunteers who enter will give their contact info to Richardson, so she can call them and let them know what they’ve won.
A poem about FFCBC volunteers appeared in an ad on page A6 of this week’s Times, and Richardson said the sentiment of that poem sums up what the volunteer appreciation prizes are all about.
“We’re giving back to you, so reward yourself, pamper yourself. All of the gifts have to do with leisure or self-care,” she explained, noting the gifts include travel coffee mugs, coupons to local businesses, and many other means for volunteers to relax after Bass Week.
In related news, Richardson said everyone, no matter their age, is encouraged to drop by “Daytime Land” and check out the colouring contest there.
There are four different pictures to be coloured. All kids (ages three-12) who enter get a free meal coupon from Boston Pizza.
Entries must be submitted before 3 p.m. tomorrow.
Ribbons and prizes will be given out in several categories, including a trophy for the judges’ choice winner.
