Last night’s sixth-annual Appreciation dinner hosted by the Volunteer Bureau featured its share of ‘thank yous’ and even one “good-bye.”
About 100 people gathered at the local legion as the bureau honoured 13 local volunteers who offered their time to various programs including the Terry Fox Run, the Christmas Community dinner, and “Meals on Wheels.”
Among the honourees to receive Certificates of Appreciation were Diane Maxey, Tricia Allan, Paulette Devos, Marj Hull-Katerick, Joyce Gosselin, Ed Katona, Lawrence Carter, Sue Drew, Jean Boileau, Goldie Goldamer, Darcy Maguire, and Gert and Dino D’Agostini.
“It’s been a great year,” said Bureau executive director Joan Pearson, who is set to retire in June. “This is our way of thanking all our volunteers and celebrating and appreciating them.”
It was decided at last month’s board meeting current volunteer co-ordinator Vanessa Hebert will take over as new director on June 3.
“It’s been a phenomenal time. It’s been fantastic,” added Pearson. “We have the perfect person in Vanessa starting from here.”
Maxey and her Choraliers and Boileau and the Sunset seniors provided plenty of entertainment.
The appreciation dinner was held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week.
