Volunteers honoured at banquet

In the spirit of National Volunteer Week, 12 local volunteers were honoured last night during the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau’s annual appreciation banquet.
Those receiving certificates of appreciation at this year’s dinner, held at the Fort Frances Curling Club, included Sue Drew, Ray, Shirley and Lyle Dolph (collectively), Sone Sonnasinh, Jeremy Durbin, Lillian Pearson, Bill Punshon, Nancy Swiston, Michelle Kaczmar, Phil Koper and Karen Mitchell.
All were on hand except Durbin, Punshon, and Pearson.
Vanessa Hebert, executive director of the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau, expressed her thanks to all these volunteers for their hard work and generous of donation of time, whether they were helping fill out income tax returns, shovelling driveways, raking leaves, or assisting with the Terry Fox Run or community Christmas dinner.
Hebert also gave out some items, such as day planners and pens, to other volunteers there who didn’t get a certificate this year but to whom she still wanted to thank.
Volunteer Karen Erwin also sang a couple of songs for those on hand for the dinner.
Hebert noted afterwards she felt the banquet “went smoothly” and “was a real success.”
