Given that March is Nutrition Month, registered dietician Rooksana Randeree of Riverside Healthcare is offering a 90-minute classroom grocery store tour at La Verendrye Hospital tomorrow.
“The main thing I’m going to be focusing on is nutrition labelling,” she said, adding anyone who is interested in learning more about it is encouraged to sign up for the 4:30 p.m. presentation.
“I think that if you know how to read a label then it helps you make healthy choices,” she voiced. “So it’s going to set you up for success when you’re grocery shopping.”
Randeree added she believes being able to read labels also helps with meal planning.
“I think that if you have a plan of what you’re going to cook for the week and make a list of ingredients before you go to the grocery store, your cart will be full of all those healthy choices,” she noted.
Randeree said there are healthy choices within the aisle of the grocery store—it’s just a matter of looking at the labels and making the right choices.
Randeree will be using a PowerPoint presentation that was developed by the Dieticians of Canada for Nutrition Month, which has the theme this year of “Best Food Forward: Plan, Shop, Cook, Enjoy!”
“That is one of the tools I’m going to be using as we navigate our way through the virtual grocery store,” she said.
