VINCENT SHEPPARD

I would like to introduce myself, Vince Sheppard, as a candidate for mayor of the Municipality of Emo.
I am a long-time resident of Emo, moving here in 1966 from Parry Sound, Ont. when I was 16. I attended Fort Frances High School, graduating in 1968.
I am a member of the Emo Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 and have been a member for 46 years. I was employed as a Canadian customs inspector at Rainy River, Fort Frances, and Pigeon River near Thunder Bay. I also was employed as a civil aviation inspector with Transport Canada Enforcement Section out of Winnipeg Man.
My latest employment has been with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources as a captain flying heavy waterbomber aircraft, fighting wildfires since 1988 out of Kenora, Ont.
After 28 years of continuous service with the Ontario government, I have since retired in November, 2014 and will be able to dedicate time to a very important trust from the people of Emo.
I previously served the community as mayor of Emo from 2010-14 and some of our accomplishments are as follows: renewing of Emo’s official plans and by-laws, as well as the return of the Ontario Ombudsman to investigate complaints about municipal councils that hold closed-door meetings.
We also upgraded the water and sewer infrastructure by working closely with the local administration and the federal and provincial government. This generated grants of up to $6 million which will carry economic development into the future.
Members of council attended all four accommodation review meetings to preserve Donald Young School for our community–and this was achieved.
Council also worked with the S.C.A.P. school committee to ensure infrastructure was in place to allow construction of the facility. In the fall of 2013, the school opened its doors.
As well, we worked with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to achieve subdivision approval to allow housing for future development, and we completed the library accessibility project with help from the Trillium Fund.
My goals are infrastructure, road and sidewalk maintenance and upgrade, walking trail completion, doctor recruitment, keeping Emo a safe and productive community, and ensuring you have a voice in government by seeking citizen input and participation.
With your vote, I pledge to deliver fair and honest public service to your community as I have in the past.
