Videon gets a new name

“Thank you for choosing Shaw.”
Starting Monday, that’s what you’ll hear if you call the reception desk at the local Videon office. Shaw Communications had taken over Videon’s parent company, Moffatt Communications, late last month.
But customers can still expect everything they’re used to getting from Videon.
“From what I know, everything’s staying the same. What Shaw plans to do down the road, we’ll have to see,” noted Chuck Croker of the community programming department.
Viewers can expect to see programs such as “Plugged In!” and “Insight,” and continued coverage of events like town council and Muskie sports.
The channels now being offered also will likely remain the same, said a release from Shaw. But it noted there could be a few channel number changes to rural areas within Northwestern Ontario in order to maintain a consistent regional channel line-up.
Meanwhile, Fort Frances will not be getting digital cable or high-speed Internet through Shaw.
The “introduction of our products in [rural] centres will be gradual, and will be dependent to a large degree on the infrastructure that is already in place or needed to provide our products and services,” the company said.
On the business end of things, billing by Videon will continue until the end of May, after which it will switch to Shaw. If you make payments through direct withdrawal or credit card, the companies will make the change for you.
After June 1, you also can view and pay bills via the Internet at www.shaw.ca
Any questions concerning billing or the cable service here still can be made to the same Videon office number (274-5522).
