The town is advising residents that the Portage Avenue underpass will be completely shut down to through traffic from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
on Sunday, July 19 through Thursday, July 23, and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, July 24.
Emergency vehicles will have access through the construction site if there is an emergency in the north end of the community.
This second road closure is necessary to ensure public safety as the contractor will be removing the remainder of the existing west concrete sidewalk, preparation the granular sub-base under the new west sidewalk and pouring the new concrete west sidewalk, said Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown this morning.
During the upcoming week, the existing pedestrian walkway will be re-aligned to the old east sidewalk and will be on a portion of the closed east lane. But a pedestrian walkway will be maintained at all times.
Motorists are encouraged to use McIrvine Road to gain access to and from the north end during periods when the road is completely closed to traffic.
