The Fort Frances Fire Department responded to a blaze at the Walleye Trailer Court around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, making for the second trailer fire this week.
Fire Chief Steve Richardson said the damage—totalling $25,000— was contained to the middle part of the trailer while the rest of it sustained considerable heat and smoke damage.
The two people in the trailer at the time were able to get out safely.
There was no working smoke alarm inside.
The fine for not having a working smoke alarm is $235.
Chief Richardson said the fire likely was caused by “carelessly discarded smoking materials.” The fire was ruled accidental and no charges were laid.
Firefighters also responded to a fire at the Lakeview Trailer Court on Tuesday around 4:25 p.m.
Chief Richardson said the fire, which had started in the kitchen, was quickly extinguished, but personnel stayed on the scene for a few hours to investigate the cause and ensure it was completely out.
After the investigation, it was determined the fire had started from a stove element that no one was aware had been turned “on,” as renovations had been going on there and the electricity only had been turned on earlier that day.
Chief Richardson noted the fire resulted in “extensive heat and smoke damage,” but was ruled as accidental, with no one being charged for negligence.
No one was hurt in this blaze as no one was home at the time.
Chief Richardson added firefighters will begin voluntary door-todoor checks for working smoke alarms in people’s homes, beginning this month.
