Two drug busts lead to charges

On Oct. 26, the Fort Frances Community Drug Action Team, Fort Frances Crime Unit, and a Treaty #3 Police Service drug enforcement officer stopped a vehicle in Nestor Falls.
Two individuals from Winnipeg were arrested, resulting in the seizure of prescription medication.
Derek Pember, 47, was charged with possession of Oxycodone while Katherine Strycharz, 40, was charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking Oxycodone.
As a result of this investigation, police seized 38 Oxycodone pills of various strengths and $120 (Cdn.) in cash.
The street value of such drugs was valued at $3,850.
Both individuals remained in custody pending a court appearance in Fort Frances scheduled for yesterday (Oct. 31).
Also last Wednesday, the Fort Frances Community Drug Action Team and officers of the Rainy River District OPP detachment stopped a vehicle in Fort Frances and arrested a male with a quantity of marijuana.
Andrew VanHeyst, 24, of Fort Frances was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana.
Police seized marijuana that was packaged for distribution, as well as cash and drug paraphernalia.
His first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 12 in Fort Frances.
