Two arrested in connection with theft from vehicle

Fort Frances OPP have arrested two individuals who allegedly stole a wallet from a local vehicle.

According to the OPP, the Rainy River District Detachment received a complaint on May 21, at approximately 1:00 p.m. regarding a wallet that had been stolen out of a parked vehicle on Riverview Drive. The owner’s cards were then found to have been used at several business around Fort Frances.

Following an investigation by officers, who obtained transaction records and cross-referenced with security footage from the business, two individuals were arrested in connection with the case.

A 46-year-old male from Fort Frances has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Two counts of fraud under $5000
  • One count of use of credit card obtained by crime
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • One count of failing to comply with an undertaking
  • One count of failing to comply with probation

Additionally, a 22-year-old male has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Seven counts of fraud under $5000
  • One count of use of credit card obtained by crime
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

Both accused were held in custody by police and have bail hearings scheduled for May 29, 2026, in Fort Frances.

The Fort Frances OPP are reminding vehicle owners to take proactive steps to deter crimes of opportunity, including to:

  • Always lock your vehicle, even if parked in your driveway.
  • Never leave keys or key fobs inside the vehicle.
  • Remove all valuables from plain sight.
  • Park in well-lit areas when possible.
  • Report any suspicious activity to police immediately.
