A video clip featuring a Fort Frances man will be among those aired this Sunday (Oct. 23) on the long-running TV program, “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
Josh Henry, 24, recently was contacted by the show, which airs at 6 p.m. (CDT) on ABC (Channel 11 for local Shaw cable subscribers).
Explaining the origin of the video clip, Henry said he was travelling in Europe last fall and did some volunteer work at a camel farm in Austria.
He was with his friend, Tash, who’s from Australia, and the two were near a creek running through some hills near a mountain.
“I tried to run over this creek, and like, absolutely biffed (wiped out)—didn’t even make it one step and then bailed,” recalled Henry.
“I fell through the ice.”
Fortunately, Tash caught the moment on video.
Henry said he was surprised as he didn’t think he’d fall through the ice, but thankfully it wasn’t too cold and he made it out okay.
He summed up the instance of falling through the ice near an Austrian camel farm as “a really random experience.”
Henry posted the video clip on Facebook while he still was in Europe last year, and got many comments on it.
“So when I got back, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll just send it in [to ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’] and see what happens,’” he remarked.
“I sent it back in the new year and the guy called me straight away and said, ‘I want to put this on a segment right away.’
“He had to get permission from myself and Tash, who filmed it,” Henry noted.
“I didn’t hear anything back until just last week,” Henry added. “He said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to play it soon. You’ll get a call.’
“And then he called me on Monday and said we’re going to show it this Sunday.”
Henry’s mother, Joan-Ann Lockhart, said the video clip is “comical,” especially Tash’s Aussie accent, and added that having “America’s Funniest Home Videos” pick the clip is kind of exciting.
“I don’t know how many they pick, but they chose to air his,” she said.
Henry said he doesn’t have all the details yet but doesn’t think he’s won anything, and he’s not sure how the video clip will be presented.
“It was a minute video clip on Facebook, so who knows how much they’ll air on the actual show?”
“It’s pretty funny that it’s going to be aired,” he added. “We’ll see how it goes, I guess.”
