Rainy River District School Board trustees will look to continue their profession development during the 2016-17 school year, with several options to be presented at tonight’s regular meeting.
Director of Education Heather Campbell has suggested four possible sessions in a report to trustees, which include training on governance/Robert’s Rules of Order, technology, health and safety, and indigenous education.
Following an online survey administered to trustees in December, 2015, Campbell said two professional development sessions for trustees took place this past February and April.
In an effort to continue with professional development, Campbell noted she will bring other opportunities to trustees as they arise.
She also indicated strategic planning is another area that should be a focus for the 2016-17 school year.
“As strategic planning is an ongoing process, and our current plan has been in place for approximately five years, I recommend that the strategic planning process begin this year,” Campbell remarked.
Trustees will offer feedback on the suggestions, then Campbell can move forward with making arrangements for the training.
Also at tonight’s meeting, which gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Education Centre here (board office), trustees will:
•hear a presentation about the board’s mental health and addictions strategy:
•look to approve the following policies: 1.70 (Director’s Performance Appraisal), 7.22 (Emergency Response), and 7.75 (Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention);
•look to approve the following policy for stakeholder consultation: 8.32 (Budget Process);
•discuss applying to the Ministry of Education for funding for a consolidated K-12 school within a renovated Rainy River High School;
•look to approve a budget of $3,888,241 to renew the existing Donald Young School gym using School Condition Improvement and Renewal funding;
•look to approve that the School Board Community Use of Schools facilities and grounds rates remain unchanged; and
•look to appoint Casey Slack, superintendent of education, and Laura Mills, superintendent of business, as scrutineers for the election at the board’s annual meeting in December.
