Truck thief nabbed

On Sunday around 9:40 p.m., the Rainy River District OPP was dispatched to a single-motor vehicle collision Highway 11, about 1.7 km west of Gehl Lake.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located an unoccupied red pickup truck in the south ditch with the engine on and bearing a Saskatchewan licence plate.
Investigation revealed the licence plate was stolen from Swift Current, Sask. on Jan. 8 while the truck had been stolen from Olds, Alta. the day before.
The public was alerted to the situation, and witnesses of the collision contacted police with further information to aid the investigation.
On Monday, officers of the Superior East OPP detachment (Wawa) were dispatched to an incident involving the theft of gas, which resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old male.
Further investigation revealed the male was the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle involved in the accident near Atikokan.
The male remains in police custody facing several charges.
