‘Tree of Life’ campaign supports health care

Kevin Nielson, owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in Fort Frances, and his staff recently presented the proceeds from their “Tree of Life” campaign to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
The campaign, which ran from Sept. 22-Oct. 19, raised more than $1,100, of which 75 percent was donated locally (to the Riverside Foundation) while the other 25 percent will be given to Shoppers’ national charities, which include the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Ovarian Cancer Canada, Canadian Psychiatric Research Foundation, and Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada.
Nielson also announced he would be matching the local share, which means the Riverside Foundation will receive more than $1,700.
Nielson extended his appreciation to the community for supporting this campaign.
“It really was our customers and staff that made this campaign a success so I am pleased to match the amount and support our local health care, as well,” he said.
Foundation director Teresa Hazel was pleased to receive the funds, which have been earmarked for the purchase of a neonatal transport incubator at La Verendrye Hospital here.
“This particular piece of medical equipment is very costly and very much needed, so we are grateful to Shoppers Drug Mart and the community for their support of the ‘Tree of Life’ campaign,” Hazel said.
