U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the International Falls port of entry levied a civil penalty against a commercial truck driver for failing to report for inspection.
The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m. last Wednesday (June 10) when a Ford Super Duty truck failed to report to the gamma imaging system for inspection as directed.
CBP officers immediately notified the Border Patrol, who were able to intercept the vehicle and return the vehicle and its driver to the International Falls port of entry.
The driver of the vehicle said he “understood that he was directed to go to the gamma imaging system for exam” but stated “he received a phone call on his way to the scanner and simply forgot to report.”
He was fined $5,000.
The driver also possessed a FAST card, which was revoked by CBP due to the violation.
“Individuals that attempt to avoid the inspection process will be dealt with in accordance to CBP laws and regulations,” said Service Port Director Mary Delaquis.
The FAST (Free and Secure Trade) program offers dedicated lanes and expedited border clearance for importers, carriers, and drivers who have passed rigorous risk assessments that include fingerprinting.
