Tragedy on Rainy Lake takes life of local dad and business owner

A prominent member of the business community lost his life over the weekend, following a tragic accident on Rainy Lake.

Brian Craig Sanders of Fort Frances, owner of the Place, succumbed to injuries sustained after two personal watercrafts collided on Rainy Lake, according to Rainy River District OPP.

On July 29, 2022 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the OPP received a call about an individual who was unconscious after a personal watercraft collision.

As Rainy River District OPP prepared to launch their vessel, they requested support from law enforcement partners. Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office already had a boat in the water and was able to depart for the scene. Meanwhile, members of the public attempted life-saving measures.

Upon arrival, Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office transported the individual to Rainy Lake Medical Centre in International Falls, Minnesota.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., medical staff at Rainy Lake Medical Centre pronounced 65 year old Sanders deceased.

This investigation is ongoing, and a post-mortem investigation will be scheduled at a later date.
