Town council will vote to amend Town of Fort Frances Bylaw 10/03 (traffic control bylaw) to make official a host of housekeeping changes.
Clerk Glenn Treftlin said he was reviewing and consolidating the town’s traffic control bylaw for submittal to the Ministry of Transportation, as is done on a routine basis, when he noticed some details were not up to date.
As such, he compiled all the changes into a comprehensive amendment bylaw to “clean it up,” Treftlin explained.
Some of these are fairly recent changes that already have taken place (such as the changing of stop signs at Webster Avenue and Third St. West), but apparently hadn’t yet been included as amendments in the traffic bylaw.
Others simply were outdated regulations which no longer are relevant (i.e., the crosswalk at Alexander MacKenzie School which closed several years ago).
None of them will result in anything new that hasn’t already come into effect.
They include:
•the addition of a parking prohibition on both sides of Veteran Avenue from Nelson Street to Church Street;
•the addition of a stop sign at Veteran Avenue and Church Street (northbound on Veteran Avenue);
•the addition of “left turns prohibited” when turning west onto Scott Street while travelling north on Mowat Avenue;
•the deletion of “right only” turns from King’s Highway north onto Keating Avenue, and from King’s Highway south onto Elm Avenue;
•the deletion of a yield sign at King’s Highway and Highway 602 (eastbound on Highway 602);
•the deletion of stop signs at Webster Avenue and King’s Highway (northbound on Webster Avenue) and Webster Avenue and Third St. West (southbound on Webster Avenue), and the addition of stop signs at Webster Ave. and Third St. West facing eastbound and westbound on Third St. West;
•the deletion of stop signs at Colonization Road East and Park Road (westbound) and Colonization Road East and Mill Road (westbound), and the addition of a stop sign at Colonization Road East (Calder Drive) and an unnnamed road (westbound); and
•the deletion of the school crosswalk at King’s Highway and the Alexander MacKenzie School sidewalk entrance.
The public portion of tonight’s meeting is scheduled to start at 5:55 p.m.
The committee of the whole will meet first in-camera starting at 5:30.
While Mayor Roy Avis, Couns. Ken Perry and Andrew Hallikas, and Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig are away for the 2010 Ontario Good Roads Association/Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in Toronto, the rest of council will be in attendance this evening for a quorum.

•a recommendation in response to a financial request from Safe Communities Rainy River District re: 2009-10 per capita funding;
•a recommendation in response to a financial request from the Tim Nordin re: competition expenses for the 2010 Dominion of Canada Northern Ontario Men’s Provincial Championship (Feb. 7-14);
•a recommendation in response to a financial request from the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board re: a new tenants welcome package;
•a recommendation in response to a financial request from Rainy River District Music Festival Association re: 70th Festival of the Performing Arts (April, 2010);
•a request from Mary Jane Pearson of the Kidney Foundation to proclaim March 2010 as “Kidney Health Month” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a request from the BIA for a annual electrical credit;
•a report on length of terms for boards and committees;
•an application to “Celebrate Canada” for Canada Day funds;
•a report on a change to council meeting dates in 2010;
•a bylaw to authorize the entering into of lease agreements at the Fort Frances Municipal Airport;
•a letter from the Police Services Board regarding quarterly reports from OPP detachment commander Insp. John Kendrick;
•a request to attend the “Fort Frances Community Chest” benefit dinner on March 7 at La Place Rendez-Vous; and
•a request to support the 22nd anniversary M&M Meat Shops Charity BBQ on May 8.
