Town treasurer moving on

After almost two and-a-half years on the job, Town of Fort Frances treasurer Margaret “Peggy” Dupuis has resigned and will be moving on to a job in Sioux Lookout.
“She was an excellent treasurer and we’re gong to miss her greatly,” CAO Mark McCaig said this morning.
“Her arrival coincided with my own [as CAO], and she was vital in clarifying our financial situation when maybe it was a little in disarray,” he noted. “She helped put it right back on track.
“I really don’t have anything negative to say about Peggy. I’ve really enjoyed working with her, and I wish her the best,” added McCaig.
Dupuis, who originally hails from Red Rock, about 100 km east of Thunder Bay, was hired in July, 2003 and officially started her job with the town on Aug. 11.
She was hired to replace Diane Pearson, who left the position on July 11, 2003.
Her last day of work is this Friday.
McCaig noted the town will begin its search for a new treasurer soon but, in all likelihood, a replacement wouldn’t be hired until next spring.
In the meantime, deputy treasurer Laurie Witherspoon and some new interim help will be hired to do the job.
“We have important functions coming up,” said McCaig. “We’re doing our budget, and we have to facilitate the year-end process for the auditing. So Laurie needs some help in that area.
“In between myself and the human resources manager, we’ll take on any HR issues in the Administration and Finance division and do the day-to-day managing while Laurie, and whoever we pull in to provide interim help, can do their job,” he remarked.
