Town council is set to make an agreement with the Fort Frances Community Clinic for use of the old library building.
The decision came Monday night as councillors approved a report concerning the disposition of the former library site at 363 Church St.
Details of this report were discussed earlier during the in-camera session of council.
“What the report calls for is that the town would move forward with the transition of the former public library to the Fort Frances Community Clinic for uses for health-care purposes,” explained Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig.
McCaig noted it would not be an immediate transfer, as they are working out items in regards to conditions imposed upon the transfer of the old library to the clinic.
“Some of those being that if the building were to cease to be needed for that purpose, it would revert back to our town because it’s a pretty prestigious building in our community,” he said.
“Then there’s a host of other items to work through,” he added. “But at present, we’re moving forward with a transition to the community clinic.”
Clinic administrator Marlis Bruyere declined to comment on details concerning the transfer, and the reasons for it, until the agreement is worked out.
Since the new library opened its doors last June on Reid Avenue adjacent to the Memorial Sports Centre and skate park, the old building has sat empty as the town decided what to be done with it.
Both the Fort Frances Community Clinic and Evangelical Fellowship Church had applied to the town to use the site.
