Town to apply for Canada 150 grants

With Canada’s 150th birthday coming up next year, the Town of Fort Frances will be applying for federal dollars to do several projects.
The Fort Frances Museum will apply to the Community Capital Program, a $215 million fund available for communities to renovate, repair and retrofit existing infrastructure to increase access, improve safety and maximize usage by residents.
The museum is aiming to get funds to build an accessible washroom and a front entrance accessible ramp, and for roof replacement, with an estimated cost for all retrofits coming in under $150,000.
The town also will apply to the Community Celebration Program, which is a $7 million fund to help communities celebrate the historic occasion.
The grant application will be for The Town of Fort Frances will apply for approximately $25,000 to pay for fireworks, banners, July 1st festivities (Fun in the Sun), and a winter carnival next year.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5 p.m., but will go in-camera for an indefinite amount of time to discuss five items (including a CUPE grievance, three potential acquisitions of property, and appointments to boards and committees).
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a hearing to consider applications for tax adjustment at 714 Armit Ave. and 426 Victoria Ave.;
•a letter from W. Krag (800 Scott St.) re: invoice in dispute; and
•a letter from G. Cariou, executive director, Ontario’s Sunset Country Travel Association, re: annual per capita marketing contribution.
