Town spring cleaning underway

Lawns are being raked, streets swept, sidewalks patched, and potholes filled as the town recovers from the wrath of another winter.
Public Works and Parks and Recreation crews are running busy schedules these days as the annual spring cleaning gets underway in full swing.
“We’ve been going and [filling potholes] in between snow storms,” Operations and Facilities manager Pat Hickerson said Friday. “They seem to be popping up as soon as we can patch them.
“We have the grader out, we have the sweeper out. We’re doing a lot of spring cleaning and sidewalk repairs and little things like that,” he added.
Parks employees already have been cleaning up the waterfront most of this week while Public Works crews have been attacking the hundreds of potholes that have appeared across town, as well as regular maintenance of sewer and water lines.
“We do have the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association conference in town [next week] so we’d like to clean things up for that,” noted Hickerson.
