Just a few weeks after being honoured as the top librarian in Ontario by the Ontario Library Boards’ Association, chief librarian and library CEO Margaret Sedgwick was saluted by town council last night for her achievement.
Mayor Roy Avis presented Sedgwick with a plaque in recognition of her outstanding leadership as Ontario’s Public Librarian of the Year and recipient of the W.J. Robertson Medallion.
“Your dedication to the Town of Fort Frances is sincerely appreciated,” the plaque reads.
“On behalf of the town, thank you very much, Margaret. You’ve done a wonderful job,” said Mayor Avis.
Sedgwick officially was presented with the medallion Feb. 3 at the annual public library awards dinner held in conjunction with the Ontario Library Association’s annual “Super Conference” (Feb. 2-5).
“When I gave my speech in Toronto, I said that the building of the new library and technology centre was the highlight of my career, and receiving my award as librarian of the year was the icing on the cake,” she noted last night.
“This is the cherry on top.
“Thank you very much for this honour,” Sedgwick added.
“I just wanted to say what a pleasure it personally was for me when I found out Margaret was going to get this award,” said Coun. Andrew Hallikas.
“It’s a big deal.
“Now, not only do we have, I think, the best new library in the province of Ontario, we have the best librarian and the best new library in the province of Ontario,” he added.
“Congratulations. It’s wonderful.”
