Town lands signage funds

Press Release

Federal Natural Resources minister Greg Rickford, who also is the minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), yesterday announced an investment to help support tourism, growth, and prosperity in Fort Frances.
A FedNor investment of $50,000 will enable the Rainy River Future Development Corp., in partnership with the Town of Fort Frances, to promote tourism and business attraction opportunities as part of a new branding initiative entitled “Boundless.”
Specifically, the funding will be used to design, produce, and install signage at strategic locations throughout the area, including at the U.S.-Canada border and the Fort Frances Airport.
“Our government is proud to work with community partners, such as the Rainy River Future Development Corp., to support community economic development initiatives that create jobs,” noted Rickford, who also is the MP for Kenora.
“Today’s announcement will help boost efforts by the Town of Fort Frances to attract visitors to the area, bring in new businesses, and strengthen the long-term economic outlook for the region,” he added.
“I would like to thank the Government of Canada for recognizing our economic needs and investing to further position our community as open for business,” said RRFDC char Jan Beazley.
“The funding announced today is helping spur new economic development opportunities for the people and businesses of Fort Frances by attracting tourists to the region and enhancing business development and growth.”
The RRFDC is one of 24 CFDCs funded by FedNor to serve Northern Ontario businesses and communities.
CFDCs are community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by volunteer boards and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals.
The funding announced yesterday is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
Since 2006, through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper government has invested $343 million in support of more than 1,645 projects.
These investments have supported more than 21,500 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
