Town applauds recent summer events

As a follow-up to the “Fun in the Sun” and “Meet Me At The Border” activities in recent weeks, several members of council and administration praised the success of the events.
CAO Mark McCaig pointed out the Friends of the Library’s “Teddy Bear Picnic” was a smash hit once again, and thanked all the volunteers and library staff for their work in making it a success.
The picnic, which took place June 30 at Legion Park, was well-attended, he noted, adding the town should be “proud of the staff at the library” for putting on an “excellent event.”
Meanwhile, Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft congratulated Mayor Dan Onichuk and Falls mayor Shawn Mason on organizing the “Meet Me At The Border” activities funded by the Canadian Consulate.
Mayor Onichuk, who felt the tug-of-war, dragon boat races and family barbecue at Smokey Bear Park on June 30 went over well, noted the consulate has agreed to fund a celebration next year, as well.
Several members of council also noted the Canada Day fireworks display this year was one of the best in years.
