A second condominium development may be in the cards for Fort Frances after town council passed a bylaw to accept an offer to sell riverfront property just east of the Riverwalk Condominiums during a special meeting yesterday afternoon.
A Thunder Bay developer—1621623 Ontario Ltd.—is eyeing the property at 625 Nelson St. (on the block between Crowe and Mosher Avenues).
The purchase price was not revealed.
“The intent of the purchaser is to build a condominium there,” said Mayor Roy Avis, adding he believes it will be a 24-unit dwelling.
Council had received an offer to purchase the property at its March 23 meeting and referred it to the Planning and Development executive committee for its recommendation, with input from town solicitor Wesley Derksen.
Also at that meeting, council passed a bylaw to amend the zoning bylaw to change zoning for 625 Nelson St. from Residential Type 3 and Tourist Commercial to Residential Type 4.
The recommendation came back to the committee of whole yesterday and was discussed in-camera.
The committee then went into a council meeting to pass the bylaw.
