Tourism strategy being submitted to Emo council

The Rainy River Future Development Corp. has finished compiling the proposals aiming to boost tourism in the Emo area and will be submitting the information to council there for approval.
If it gets the nod, the booklet then will be sent to all those who attended a brainstorming session late last month at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre, as well as other Emo businesses.
Geoff Gillon and Dan Wright of the RRFDC both were satisfied with the results of the Sept. 29 meeting.
“We took the information and incorporated it into our strategy,” said Gillon. “It’s very good because it helps us keep in touch with development in Emo.”
“It will be reproduced for distribution and our use as well,” echoed Wright.
Gillon said their report contained some viable–and sensible–ideas.
“There’s some really good ideas. They want to stop people and have them take a second look at what the area has to offer,” he noted.
Wright said the brainstorming behind the proposals, and the conciseness of the report, will really help Emo in the long run.
“I was impressed with the understanding of who was currently coming to Emo,” he said. “They have a good number of tourists going there now, and they just asked themselves the question, ‘How do we service them better?’”
When groups like FedNor or the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund are considering a project to fund, this becomes the “bible,” noted Wright.
“It send signals to the federal or provincial reps that Emo has definite priorities, and it knows what it wants,” he said, adding Emo is one of the fastest-growing communities in Northern Ontario.
