The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will take place in Fort Frances at 2 p.m. this Sunday, running from the OPP detachment at the Civic Centre to the Tim Hortons on King’s Highway.
The event is held in 35 countries and in many municipalities across Canada, and aims to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics, an international competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Law enforcement officers participate in the torch run annually, raising pledges and promoting other fundraising.
All are welcome to cheer on local torch-running officers and further donations can be made Sunday afternoon.
The Torch Run, started in Wichita, KS in 1981, celebrated its 25th year in 2006, raising US $25.5 million for Special Olympics programs worldwide.
