The next “Citizen of the Year” in the Town of Fort Frances will be revealed at tonight’s regular council meeting.
The honouree officially will be honoured during the town’s annual appreciation dinner this Friday (Nov. 18) at La Place Rendez-Vous, and also will be featured in the Santa Claus parade here Nov. 26.
A total of four nominations were submitted by the Oct. 17 deadline.
The selection committee—comprised of Linda Hamilton (“Citizen of the Year 2008”), Gord McBride, and Couns. Andrew Hallikas and Paul Ryan—then met earlier this month to review the nominations and choose the most suitable candidate.
Their recommendation will be up for council approval tonight, after which time the mayor will announce the identity of the individual.
The identities of the other nominees will not be revealed.
Anyone who has done an outstanding job for the community in any way is eligible for the award.
Last year’s “Citizen of the Year” was Joyce Cunningham.
Tonight’s council meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5 p.m., but is scheduled to be in-camera until 6:10.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a public meeting re: applications for tax adjustment at 555 Scott St (2011) and 1210 Olde Shambles Rd. (2011);
•a presentation from B. Kircher re: proposed sidewalk removal at 216 Armit Ave. (matter previously decided);
•a report from the Economic Development Advisory Committee re: pricing and sales policy at the industrial park;
•a request from the Salvation Army-Rainy River District re: its 2011 Christmas Kettle campaign;
•a request from J. Dakin re: water service invoice at 1107 Second St. E.;
•a request from the Sunset Country Métis to proclaim this Wednesday (Nov. 16) as “Louis Riel Day” in the Town of Fort Frances, and raise the Métis flag at the Civic Centre;
•a bylaw to adopt an official plan for the Town of Fort Frances and to repeal Bylaw 07/98;
•a request for a council appointee at a meeting, called “Community Leaders Working Together to Create a Connected Community,” to be held here Nov. 23;
•a request from Jackie Lampi-Hughes re: Hallowe’en curfew; and
•a request to attend the Fort Frances Power Corp. annual general meeting on Nov. 30.
