Top citizen to be named

Who will be the 2018 “Citizen of the Year?”
The answer to that question will be revealed at tonight’s town council meeting.
The new “Citizen of the Year” will be honoured during a presentation following the committee of the whole meeting.
The town received a total of five nominations by the Oct. 26 deadline.
Once applications were in, the “Citizen of the Year” selection committee met and reviewed them on Nov. 2 and came up with a recommendation for council.
Then at the Nov. 13 meeting of council, the committee of the whole received a report including that recommendation for final approval.
But council’s receipt of the report was made in-camera so as to maintain the element of surprise for tonight’s meeting, when the top citizen will be honoured in person.
Evelyn Metke was last year’s “Citizen of the Year.”
Tonight’s council meeting, which is the final one for the current council, will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
One in-camera item is on the agenda (Agency One matters).
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a public meeting re: applications for tax adjustment at 560 Webster Ave. (2018);
•a bylaw for a service agreement with Ontario Clean Water Agency for operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment facility and for the overall responsible operator designation; and
•recommendations re: requests for radio advertising, a “Meals on Wheels” sponsorship, the construction of an over-height fence, and 2019 user fee schedules from the various divisions.
