Top citizen nominees sought

Duane Hicks

Do you know anyone who has made a difference in our community?
The town’s “Citizen of the Year” selection committee is asking the public to nominate such individuals for the award, which is being given out for the 27th time this year.
But those wanting to do so also need to act fast—the nomination deadline is next Thursday (Nov. 6).
Anyone who has done an outstanding job for the
community in any way is eligible for the award.
The only stipulation is that the recipient be a resident of the Town of Fort Frances.
Aaron Petrin, the town’s human resources manager, said nominations forms have been picked up but none returned so far.
“We know we have them,” noted Petrin, referring to citizens deserving of the honour.
“It’s just a matter of getting to recognize them, and we can’t without the nominations,” he stressed.
To nominate an individual for this award, pick up a nomination form at the information desk at the Civic Centre.
Forms also are available on the town’s website at www.fort-frances.com (under “Notices and Announcements”).
Completed nomination forms must be returned to the Civic Centre by 4 p.m. on Nov. 6.
The selection committee then will meet next Friday in order to make a recommendation to council in time for its Nov. 10 meeting, at which time the identity of the recipient will be revealed.
The committee is comprised of Gord McBride, Nick Wihnan (“Citizen of the Year 2011”), Linda Hamilton (“Citizen of the Year 2009”), and Couns. Andrew Hallikas and Paul Ryan.
Mayor Roy Avis is an ex-officio member.
Petrin said the timing of the selection is so that the recipient can participate in the annual Santa Claus parade on Saturday, Nov. 25 (in conjunction with the “Festival of Frost”).
The “Citizen of the Year” will be formally honoured at the town’s annual appreciation dinner next May at Sunny Cove, and also be asked to take part in any parades.
