Toddler found safe

the OPP

The OPP received a call from a Fort Frances resident shortly after 4 a.m. yesterday reporting he had spotted a young child outside his residence.
The caller told police that because of the warmer weather, he had slept with his window open and woke up to what he thought was a cat outside his window.
But when he looked outside, he saw a small child standing on the roadway.
The child was dressed and wearing shoes, but there were no adults around.
Police immediately attended the scene and determined the child was about two-and-a-half years old, but was too young to communicate with police as to who his parents were.
Family & Children’s Services arrived to care for the child while police canvassed the neighbourhood to see if they could locate the child’s family.
A short time later, police received a call from the child’s parent reporting their child missing.
An investigation revealed the child had walked out of the family home while the parent was sleeping.
The child has been returned safe and sound to a very relieved family.
