Tickets now on sale for Backus concert series

Season tickets are on sale now for the 2017-18 Backus Performing Arts Series.
Backus Community Center board member Diane Maxey said the series once again promises a talented, entertaining lineup of six shows at a terrific value.
On top of that, none of them interfere with the “Tour de Fort” series on this side of the border, she added.
The series kicks off Oct. 1 with “Teddy Roosevelt,” a one-man performance by Joe Wiegand, who is considered the world’s premier Theodore Roosevelt reprisor and allegedly has made some wonder if America’s youngest president had “come back to life,” noted Maxey.
She said she heard this show is “phenomenal,” especially for history buffs.
This will be followed by Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka” which will be performed Oct. 27-29.
This local production promises excitement for kids of all ages as Charlie Bucket and the other “Golden Ticket” winners learn the importance of sincerity, kindness, and “pure imagination” while having an adventure through Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.
Monroe Crossing, featuring the Sloughgrass Family Band as the opening act, will cap off the year with a special Christmas concert Dec. 15.
Both of these acts have dazzled audiences with their classic bluegrass and Gospel bluegrass tunes, noted Maxey.
Comedian Daren Streblow will bring his family-friendly show to Backus on Feb. 2, followed by singer Kat Perkins on March 10.
Perkins was a semi-finalist on Season 6 of the hit show, “The Voice,” back in 2014.
Minneapolis Children’s Theater will close out the season April 27 with “Seedfolks”–a one-person play based on a children’s book about growing up and how hope can spring from gritty urban origins.
All shows begin at 7 p.m.
Season tickets are available from Maxey (274-7309). The cost for Backus members is $71 Cdn. ($55 U.S.) while the price for non-members is $84 Cdn. ($65 U.S.)
Members also get two free “Bring a Friend” tickets.
“Pick 4 Shows” ticket packs also are available from Maxey, which cost $49 Cdn. ($38 U.S.) for Backus members and $57 Cdn. ($44 U.S.) for non-members.
Individual tickets to the Backus shows can be purchased at Betty’s here and at the door.
These cost $16 Cdn. ($12 U.S.) for adults, $8 Cdn. ($6 U.S.) for students, or $33 Cdn. ($25 U.S.) for a family pass.
