All 500 advance tickets for Friday night’s Borderland Thunder home opener against the KC Bulldogs (Thunder Bay) sold out yesterday, forcing fans to get to the Memorial Sports Centre early in hopes of getting one of 400 tickets available at the gate.
Tickets at the door cost $7 for adults and $5 for students/seniors.
Thunder president Shawn Jourdain said he wouldn’t be surprised if tonight’s game, which starts at 7:30 p.m., is played in front of 1,200 people–a full house for the “Ice for Kids” Arena.
There are still seats available for Saturday’s game against the Bulldogs, which also gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
While local fans will be getting their first glimpse of the Thunder, the two teams will be hitting the ice for the fourth time already in the young Superior International Junior Hockey League season.
The Bulldogs (1-4) handed the Thunder (4-1-1) their lone loss so far in their season-opener back on Sept. 28–a 6-5 decision at the Fort William Gardens.
The Thunder beat them 4-1 and 4-3 last weekend.
The Thunder’s top sniper, Kevin Webb (#7), is a player hockey fans here know well. The former Muskie co-MVP leads the SIJHL in scoring with 13 points (10 goals and three assists).
Ten of those have come against the Bulldogs, including a hat trick in that first game.
Ian Lockman (#13) and Steven King (#9) are tied for second on the team in scoring with two goals and five assists apiece.
Devlin’s Jason Flatt (1-1) will get the start in goal for the Thunder tonight.
Keep an eye on Bulldogs forward Brian Dzijack (# 27), who has scored four times against the Thunder so far. Centre Tyler Bruno (#11) leads the team in scoring with one goal and five assists for six points.
In related news, local Tom Thumb players will take to the ice for scrimmages during the first intermission tonight.
A reminder the local M and M Meat Shops franchise will host a tailgate party starting at 5:30 p.m. at the entrance of the Memorial Sports Centre.
