FORT FRANCES—The Fort Frances OPP continues to investigate threats allegedly made at Fort Frances High School prior to the Christmas break.
“Basically there’s really no new developments to report at this time,” Cst. Dereck McLean said Tuesday. “Our criminal investigation unit is still doing some follow-up and some investigation.
“They haven’t concluded yet,” he added.
Police were called into the school last month after administration heard rumours that a small group of students was threatening other students with violence.
“These rumours centre around a ‘Prep Beat-down Day’ on Dec. 22, whereby a small group of students are supposedly planning to bring guns to school to attack other students,” FFHS principal Gord McCabe had written in a letter to parents and guardians last month.
OPP officers were in the school for much of December, including Dec. 22—the last day before the Christmas break.
“We had a police presence in the school. There were no incidents,” Cst. McLean said.
Both school administration and the police have stressed the school is safe and students are not in danger.
“There has been no information received that substantiates any threats against any person or group within or outside of the high school,” the OPP said in a press release dated Dec. 20.
Classes resume at Fort High this Monday (Jan. 8).
